Dancewear For Ballet Class – What Dancewear Will I Need?

When starting a new ballet class, it is important to have all the tools that will be needed on the first day, including the appropriate dancewear. Usually, a ballet class requires each student to wear clothing that is fitted to their body, so that the teacher can see their body positioning and correct their form. For female dancers, the basic dancewear requirements include a leotard, tights and ballet shoes. Generally, a black leotard is standard for beginning Ballet Classes.

Leotards come in a number of different styles, such as camisole, short sleeved and long sleeved. If the school does not specify which type is needed, students should look at the different styles that are available and choose which one they think they will be more comfortable dancing in. Choose one that will be most flattering to your body type. Students should keep in mind the type of undergarments that they will likely be wearing with their dance attire, and make sure that the leotard that is chosen will complement and fully cover them. The standard for ballet tights in a beginning class is usually pink footed tights that will cover the entire leg and foot. These will be worn under the leotard. If the dance school allows, tights can also be purchased in other colours such as white, black, or nude to match the skin.

Like leotards, dance tights can also be purchased in a number of different styles. In addition to the full footed tights, there are convertible tights, which have a hole at the bottom of the foot to roll the tights up into Capri’s .Some ballet classes, particularly for adults, are much more liberal with regard to the dancewear that is required. If this is the case, students should be fine with any sort of tight fitting legging and top.

Ballet shoes, however, are mandatory for all ballet classes. When buying ballet shoes, it is best to go into a store and try them on in person, as different brands tend to run the sizes much differently from street shoes. The ballet shoes that will be needed in a beginning ballet class are flat ballet slippers, and the variations that they come in are canvas or leather, and full or split sole. In most beginning ballet classes, pink leather slippers with a full sole are usually most popular and are most often recommended by the instructors. With the dancewear above items, students should be fully prepared for a wonderful dance experience.
